Young Living Essential Oils and Colon Massage for Aching Heads
Young Living Essential Oils and Colon Massage for Aching Heads
by Cynthia Kasper
The other night as I languished in bed suffering with an achy-breaky summer bug of some sort, it dawned on me that I had a secret that I have not shared with you yet. It is a magical, wonderful secret that could bring you relief from a multitude of ills, including clogged intestines, throbbing heads, puffy bellies, extreme tiredness and infidelity. Okay, not infidelity. I was just testing to see if you were paying attention. But it is a great technique for your home-remedy arsenal if you or a member of your family is suffering from any other of the above maladies.
My secret? It is the colon massage. I learned about it many years ago as I studied macrobiotics with Michio Kushi in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. And now I am going to share it with you. The advantage for you is, by combining therapeutic grade essential oils from Young Living, you are increasing the effectiveness of this technique many-fold.
The colon massage is an abdominal massage that stimulates peristalsis, or the muscular contractions of the intestines. It helps to relieve stagnation of the colon and to get things moving once again.
According to macrobiotics, our food choices can cause headaches. For example, eating too much salt and animal products could give us a squeezing, viselike pain in the back of our heads. A frontal headache can be caused by overindulging in sugar, chocolate, alcohol and fruit juice. And side head pain can be caused by taking excessive greasy, oily food. So, the next time you are stuck in the throes of pounding temples, give yourself a colon massage using Young Living Essential Oils and see if you find relief.
How to Do a Colon Massage
Heads up! Remember wondering why in Heaven's name you needed to learn
about the human body in high school science? Here's yet another example
of how we use our science education in our everyday life. Recall that
the colon begins on the lower right side of the abdomen and continues
upward to the bottom of the ribcage. It crosses the stomach and a longer
portion of the colon drapes down the left side and connects to the
rectum, deep in the center of our body.
To begin, lie down on a flat surface, preferably on a bed or the floor. Bend your knees. Apply a few drops of peppermint or Di-Gize therapeutic grade essential oil from Young Living. Both are excellent for digestive issues. Fennel would be another fine choice. (If the oils are too intense, just rub a small amount of unscented carrier oil on top of the essential oil.) With a closed fist or the tips of your fingers, begin massaging on the right side of the abdomen and work in a clockwise direction up, across and down the left side in small circles. Follow the path of the large intestine. Take your time. There is no reason to rush through the massage. Massage at least 1-2 minutes before moving to the next area. Pressure can be applied during the massage. How much pressure depends on the tolerance level of each individual. Usually you will find an area that is exceptionally tender downright painful. This is the area where you want to concentrate your massage. And it really is not the time to be a namby-pamby*. Get in there and massage with conviction, because more than likely, your aching head is originating from that very spot.
Continue massaging until you feel the pain dissipating or your abdomen feels squishy and the tender spots are not quite so tender any longer. I like to do at least 3-4 complete passes over the large intestine followed with the finale of gently kneading the center of my abdomen, or small intestine. You might find that you will release gas or you may have to use the bathroom. Both of these are good signs.
I prefer to perform my own colon massages. You, on the other hand, might choose for someone else to do the massaging. The technique is still the same. Up the right side, across and down the left. If you do have someone available who can do foot reflexology, complete your session with them working on your large intestine vita-flex points in the same direction and using the same essential oils.
Colon massages can help to ease colic in babies and soothe digestive upset or headaches in children. Be sure to dilute the essential oil 50:50 before applying to their sensitive skin. For newborns, just massage lightly in a clockwise direction without the essential oils, opting to put the peppermint or Di-Gize on the bottoms of their feet instead. You can also teach children how to do colon massage for themselves.
So, there you have it. Another one of my secrets, out of the bag. I hope that it provides you and your loved ones comfort and relief. If so, please be sure to tell your friends.
*If overbearing pain occurs, stop and consult a doctor. Of course, if
you are under a doctor's care for any abdominal issue, please get
medical clearance before attempting a colon massage.
Young Living Essential Oils for Natural Pain Relief

Let me ask you a question…. Do you ever pay attention to the warning labels on common over-the-counter medications? You know, that teeny, tiny print that is on the folded up piece of tissue paper inside of the box? Most of us don't. We trust that our doctor or pharmacist will keep our best interest in mind and guide us{C} to products that are safe as well as effective. This is not the case. If you took the time to read the label on the box of Tylenol you will find that acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, is toxic to the liver. In addition, recent studies have linked Tylenol to causing asthma in kids. Not to mention the recent Johnson & Johnson recall of children's Tylenol products because of contamination that was making kids sick. How safe do you feel now? Will you continue reaching for Tylenol for headaches and fever or are you open to considering safe and effective therapeutic grade essential oils for your natural pain relief?
Natural Pain Relief Alternatives
I am in your corner. I remember how challenging it was to make the switch from aspirin and antibiotics to holistic remedies. It felt foreign and I had tons of questions. Daily we are bombarded with TV, radio, magazine and internet advertisers touting this drug and that medication. We have history with how our caregivers handled our own childhood health issues. What is the best practice to follow? How do we break from habit and set out on a new course for our health? Answer? One baby step at a time. Here I have compiled a list of common ailments or issues and the Young Living Essential Oil to use as an alternative to Tylenol. Without the liver toxicity…..
- achey joints: wintergreen, PanAway, peppermint on location; Ning Xia Red for joint tenderness
- back pain: Aroma Siez, peppermint on location
- sore ears: lavender, Melrose, Purification rubbed in a circular direction around the ear (NEVER put essential oils directly in the ear)
- elevated body temperature: peppermint applied to bottom of feet, wait 10 minutes. Repeat. Wait 10 minutes. Repeat.
- headache: peppermint or PanAway on temples, back of neck. Put drop on tongue and push against roof of mouth. Colon Massage. Simple Headache Technique.
- cramps: Progessence Plus on side of neck, valerian 2 drops internally in blank gel cap or Dragon Time topically
- muscle aches: peppermint, wintergreen or PanAway on location
- sinus congestion: peppermint, R.C. or Breathe Again on location
- sore throat: Thieves Spray on back of throat, gargle with melaleuca alternifolia, Thieves on bottom of feet
- toothache: clove or PanAway on location
In summary, Young Living Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils provide safe and effective natural pain relief. It is also important to discover the cause of the ailment and not just treat the symptom. This is where true healing lies.

LAVENDER OIL AND IT'S BENEFITS
Today we are going to talk about lavender oil.
I burnt my finger on our wood stove yesterday, and it hurt so bad. I ran upstairs and grabbed ice as quick as I could. It felt a little better, but still hurt. I took one drop of lavender oil and put it on the spot where I burned my finger. It hurt for about 20 more minutes, but then it quit. Today you can't see any sign of a burn. I love lavender. Below I have listed some lavender oil benefits that have been found to work for others.
Lavender essential oil is one of the most versatile of essential oils. It helps calm my family before bed, and it’s always in our first aid kit. I also love to use a couple of drops of lavender essential oil mixed with coconut oil for a nice soothing lotion. Especially during winter when my skin dries out! Since it’s one of my favorite oils that I am never without, I thought I would share 20 ways to use Lavender Essential Oil. If you’re new to essential oils, lavender is definitely one of the first essential oils that you want to start your collection.
1. Stop a runny nose. I have rubbed Lavender under my nose, and under my kid’s noses, and our runny noses actually stopped. You can also rub a drop of lemon essential oil behind the ears.
2. Calm down the restless. Sometimes it’s hard for us to calm down before bed. I usually apply lavender to our feet, and diffuse it to encourage rest at night.
3. Burns. Apply 2 to 3 drops of lavender and the sting of the burn goes away. Continue applying throughout the day, and the healing occurs more quickly.
4. Cuts and Bruises. I apply a drop of lavender essential oil. Lavender helps calm the little one who is hurt, and it doesn’t burn like some ointments or creams {according to my daughter}.
5. Seasonal Relief. Applied under the nose, diffused with peppermint, a drop in a spoonful of raw honey, have all worked for me.
6. When you’re nauseous or struggle with motion sickness, you can put lavender around your belly button and/ behind your ears. Lavender is one of the essential oils that is safe during pregnancy, so it’s worth a try to see if it will help with morning sickness!
7. To freshen your laundry {like when you’ve left laundry in the was
her for a week, and you’ve washed it a couple of times, even with vinegar, and it still smells off}. I dry the clothes, and then add a couple of drops to the wool dryer balls we use, and toss them in on air dry.
8. I add lavender essential oil to my homemade deodorant recipe because of the antibacterial properties, and of course the smell.
9. When your head hurts, you can rub lavender to your temples to alleviate the pain.
10. Feeling stressed? Add a couple of drops to your palm and rub the back of your neck near the base.
11. To help combat diaper rash, scoop out some coconut oil and add a drop of lavender. It smells good and soothes their little bottoms.
12. Sunburn. To soothe our sunburns over the Summer, I again applied coconut oil with a couple of drops of lavender essential oil. It was amazing how quickly it took the sting away. I would suggest having at least two bottles on hand during the Summer.
13. Cleaning. Do you usually clean with vinegar and water but the smell gets to you? Add several drops of lavender essential oil to the spray bottle. Don’t forget to shake well.
14. Soothing soak. Add a few drops to a handful of Epsom salts before a bath for a relaxing soak in the tub.
15. Homemade facial scrub. Add a few drops to rolled oats, or sugar, for a nice smoothing scrub.
16. Changes in my complexion during my cycle. You know what I’m talking about. Bumps, redness, blotchiness, acne. Lavender helps.
17. Monthly Cramps. Massage lavender essential oil with a little coconut oil over the area and apply a warm compress.
18. Reduce elevated temperatures. While peppermint is my usual go-to oil to bring down temperatures, lavender is a great one to use on children under two.
19. Ear Pain. When your ear starts aching and you think it may lead to an ear infection, rub lavender around the ear, behind the ear, and down the throat.
20. For a refreshing drink, add a drop of lavender to your favorite lemonade. I’ve also made lavender tea with warm water and honey. Remember to use a glass bottle or cup.
I hope you enjoyed this list of ways to use lavender essential oil!

Best Acne Control Essential Oils
I have been asked by several friends on how to treat acne with essential oils. Here is an article that I found that will help with treating acne.
There are many commercial products for acne control, which have
essential oils, as their ingredients. However, during the manufacture of
these commercial products, the medicinal properties of the essential oils are
lost. Topical application of essential oils, is one of the best acne
treatments.
#1 - Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil contains terpinen-4-ol, which kills bacteria and is also used for cleaning wounds. Not only does tea tree oil quickly clears up acne, but it also helps soothe the skin. Do not use undiluted tea tree oil on the skin, as it might lead to itching and drying of the skin. For topical application, mix 2 drops of pure tea tree oil, with 30 ml of aloe vera or 10 drops of jojoba oil.
#2 - Lavender Oil
Lavender essential oil has many medicinal properties. It is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and soothing. Lavender oil also has a pleasant scent. Lavender oil helps to cure the red itchiness experienced during acne. It helps to clear and prevent acne. It also reduces acne scars. Never use lavender oil directly on the skin. Make a solution of 2 drops of lavender oil and 10 drops of jojoba oil, for topical application.
#3 - Oregano Oil
This oil is one of the most potent oil and kills the bacteria responsible for acne. Oregano oil contains carvacrol and volatile antimicrobials thymol. It also contains many antioxidants and vitamins. Oregano greatly helps to disinfect skin. However, this oil is potent, so mix 2 drops of oregano oil with 10 drops of jojoba oil and apply it topically on acne prone areas.

HOW I GOT STARTED WITH YOUNG LIVING!
How I was introduced to Young Living
I was introduced to Young Living oils when I visited my sister in Florida in June of 2014. I was in a head on collision in 2012, and I have had many migraines over time. My daughter and I drove down to Miami and my head was really killing me. I had taken Tylenol several times during our travel down to help with the pain. When we arrived in Florida my sister mixed up a concoction of essential oils to help with the pain in my head and neck. Within 30 minutes the pain was gone. I hadn't had any more pain the rest of our visit. As we were packing to leave I had a pain in my right leg that shot up from my knee to my hip and it was a terrible throbbing pain. I put the mixture on my hip and the pain went away within a few minutes. I was sold. I didn't purchase my kit until January 2015. After purchasing my kit I made up an oil for headaches. It was great because I have helped numerous people with headaches. People who have daily headaches are either not having headaches at all, or are having them so sporadic.
I have created this blog to share oil recipes with you, and to help with advice on helping others.
Young Living provides the best possible, 100% therapeutic grade essential oils; and I’ve smelled (and experienced!) the difference. I love their Seed to Seal® process – which means I can feel confident about the quality of oils I use. I have been on several of the farms and seen the entire process and there is no other company that allows that!
